God in the Lead: Meditations on Mission from Genesis and Acts

Stan Slade is well-known within ABC circles, and has been a friend of mine for almost a decade.  It is a pleasure to recommend his book, which is published by International Ministries.

Born in San Diego, California, Dr. Stanley D. Slade is a graduate of Stanford University and holds the M.A. and Ph.D. degrees from Fuller Theological Seminary. He began ministry with his wife, Cathy, at the Union Church of Guatemala City, Guatemala and later taught at Jamestown College in North Dakota. He was ordained to missionary service by the First Baptist Church of Pasadena, California in 1983, and commissioned the same year by American Baptist International Ministries. He served from 1983 to 1992 as dean and professor at the theological seminary of the Baptist Association of El Salvador, training pastors and lay leaders.

Slade joined the home office staff of International Ministries in 1992 to work in planning and the coordination of overseas operations. He guided the planning effort that produced IM's strategic plan for 2000-2010, Go Global.

From 2000-2002, Slade led International Ministries' Mission Explosion Team, working to engage American Baptists in creative partnerships and direct involvement in the worldwide mission of Jesus Christ. In 2003, he will return to missionary service in Iberoamerica in the area of theological education. Slade is the author of numerous articles and a commentary on the Gospel of John (Buenos Aires: Ediciones Kairós, 1998). He has taught as an adjunct or visiting professor at over a dozen theological training institutions throughout Latin America and the United States.

About God in the Lead
God often surprises us-even those whom God calls, prepares, and sends into mission-by working not only through us but also within and among us. That's the premise of God in the Lead, the new book by Bible teacher and missiologist Stan Slade.
Based on Bible studies Slade presented at American Baptist World Mission Conferences, God in the Lead offers fascinating insights into the lives of biblical figures in Genesis and Acts. As you ponder important questions faced by Abraham and Sarah, Leah and Rachel, Joseph and his brothers, and the apostles---God, who are you, really? What are you up to today? What are you inviting me to do?---you will discover that these questions have new meaning in your own life.

Slade, formerly an American Baptist missionary in El Salvador, served as special assistant to International Ministries' executive director. He was reappointed for service as Regional Missionary for Iberoamerica in theological education, beginning in January 2004.

All profits will support the ministries of ABCUSA International Ministries.
